The Kingscliff Hockey Club started as the Cudgen Hockey Club in 1962 as an idea that has withstood time to be one of the largest Hockey Clubs in Australia.
The Cudgen Hockey Club for men was established in 1962 with the first meeting being late in the year with Merv Edwards, Barry Cox, Frank Auger, Peter Lowe, Eric Davis, Peter Nobbs, Alan Grainger, Richie Reisenweber, Daryl Mills, Roly Luxton and Ian Batten.
The first official meeting was on the 12th Feb 1963. This was at 29 Pearl Street, Kingscliff, being attended by the executive and members from Border Hockey Ass being Barry Smith, Mr L Brown, Ken Staunton and Alex Lever. Barry Smith spoke on affiliation fees (£2/2/-) and registration fees (£6/-). Ken Staunton advised on the necessity to supply umpires to help with matches each week. Delegates (2) were to come to monthly meetings, if no delegates then a fine of 10/- per delegate.

Also present were Peter Nobbs, Alan Grainger, Barry Cox, Richie Reisenweber, Daryl Mills, Roly Luxton and Ian Batten.
The First Colours of the Club were white Shirts with green bands on the collar, the sleeves and C H C on the pockets (It was probably a K), white shorts and green socks with white tops. Shirts were numbered. Initially practice was 2 nights a week, games were on Sunday Mornings and as some players were involved in football they were exempt from some training.
Monthly meetings were held at the hockey grounds or at the Chinderah pub amenities block.
The Kingscliff Women’s Hockey Club was founded in 1965 and carried on autonomously until 1974 at which time the men and women clubs united to form the Kingscliff Hockey Club.
The Kingscliff Hockey Club has produced Australian Representatives and caters for Seniors down to Under 7s, all keen to play Hockey, fixing firmly with the motto of ‘A Game For All’.
